Surya “Chili” Yalamanchili
Our film follows the campaign of Surya Yalamanchili as he runs for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2010 elections, to unseat Rep. Jean Schmidt in Cincinnati, Ohio,. Yalamanchili, or “Chili” as he is also known as, is 28 years old, was one of the youngest brand managers in Proctor & Gamble’s history, and gave up employment to run for office full-time on a threadbare campaign out of his condo.
Yalamanchili has the networking ability you might expect from someone who worked at LinkedIn. What’s more, he was on“The Apprentice,” and those people are hard-core. But what defined Chili in his candidacy is that in the 2010 Congressional races nationwide, he was the only candidate to not take any PAC money (Political Action Committees, the aparatus of corporate campaign spending).
This short doc shows how Chili hustles in his one-man campaign to out race the big spenders.
